What is an… “AGV”?

AGV stands for automated (or automatic) guided vehicle. According to VDI, an AGV is a portable robot that follows along marked long lines or wires on the floor, or uses radio waves, vision cameras, magnets, or lasers for navigation.”

Put more simply, an AGV is a vehicle that moves goods from A to B without a human operator.

AGVs mean maximum versatility. They can be easily deployed for existing processes, and are an excellent way of partially automating warehouse tasks. Automation solutions from Linde Material Handling, for example, can be tailored flexibly to the size and needs of the specific customer organization. In other words, it is possible to target individual steps or to address entire processes to gain greater efficiency and productivity.
