The bright side of trucks

Safety and efficiency in intralogistics aren’t just about warehouse configuration, forklift movement, or how well a workspace is designed. Light and visibility are also important factors. With lighting technology like from Linde Material Handling (MH), operating a truck can be safer and more efficient.

Picture a forklift driver on his first night shift. Normally, he completes his work at a decent pace. But today is different. Not only is it darker than usual, but a few ceiling lights are not functioning properly. So, he must be extra careful – he obviously doesn’t want to cause any accidents or risk hurting someone. Thankfully, lighting technology can take the edge off these issues.

The front end

Some of us are already familiar with the Linde IC, reach, and electric forklift trucks. Not only are these trucks effective in completing everyday warehouse tasks, but they can also be equipped with additional features, such as different lighting options. Let’s take a closer look – and begin with the front end.

Each vehicle offers LED and halogen working lights. The LED working lights are energy efficient. And on top of that, they illuminate the working area without dazzling effects that could potentially blind oncoming traffic. Halogen working lights include an optimized reflector and are better suited for illuminating a specific working area. Then you have lights, like the Linde VertiLight, which can illuminate working areas from top to bottom – perfect for elevated shelves or racks. Or LED Stripes, which IC and forklift trucks can use for even and extensive illumination. And to put the cherry on top, each truck can also be equipped with Linde BlueSpot – an LED warning light that comes in two colour variations. Whether you use the red or blue option, each light is intended to silently warn pedestrians or workers of approaching trucks.

What about rear lights?

Of course, visibility isn’t just crucial in front of a truck. It’s also essential in the back. That’s why companies like Linde MH also offer rear lights, such as the LED Stripes or the Linde TruckSpot. Similar to the front LED stripes of a truck, the rear LED lights illuminate the work area evenly. Also, its automatic light colours display the direction of travel in which the truck is moving in. But if these lights aren’t enough, there is also the Linde TruckSpot. It enables trucks to project a red warning triangle with a forklift symbol onto the ground, making pedestrians or other workers aware that it’s approaching – a practical safety-focused feature.

And then there’s the middle

There are lights for the front, and then there are lights for the back. But companies like Linde Material Handling also considered lights for the sides of a truck. Linde IC and electric forklift trucks can be equipped with Linde Warning Lines in red or blue. These warning lines are ideal for specifying safety zones for pedestrians in various environments. So, in case front and back lights would not suffice, there are always options in the middle.

Lighting options are an excellent way to increase safety and efficiency in the warehouse. And regardless of how a warehouse is configured or designed, there are suitable options for everyone.
